About Us

Welcome Message from the President

It is a great honor and pleasure to introduce you to the Harvard Arabian Gulf Student Association (HAGSA). I am proud to have co-founded this organization with my dear friend, Abdulla Almarzooqi, to be the first Harvard University-wide organization that represents the Arabian Gulf. The goal of this establishment is to be the leading Harvard-wide student organization, with more than 70 members and counting, and to serve as a credible entity from the region bridging the gap between the Harvard ecosystem and the Arabian Gulf.

Our Advisors

  • Aiman Mufti began his career at Saudi Aramco in 1997, progressing from system analyst to key leadership roles, including CIO at YASREF and SADARA, and leading the creation of the Aramco IT Future Center. He contributed to national initiatives, including drafting Saudi Arabia’s first eHealth strategy with the Ministry of Health and later served as Senior Advisor for Business Development at the Ministry of Energy. Currently, Aiman is the sector head for human capacity building in the KSA energy sector, driving strategic energy-related projects and initiatives.

  • HE Maryam Majid Khalfan Bin Theneya, currently the Second Deputy Speaker of the UAE Federal National Council, has been elected as an FNC member for two consecutive terms (2019 and 2023), ranking first among women in Dubai. With over 27 years of experience in parliamentary work, information technology, and communications, she previously held key roles such as Director of Government Communications at the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratization. Known for her dedication to community and humanitarian work, she has been deeply engaged in UAE society for over 20 years.

  • Bader Mousa Al-Saif is a historian specializing in the modern Middle East, with a focus on the Arabian Peninsula’s geopolitics, policy, and culture. He is an assistant professor at Kuwait University and a fellow at Chatham House and the Arab Gulf States Institute.

    With over two decades of experience in government, energy, and public policy, he has co-founded NGOs in education and justice and received multiple awards. He has published widely and is frequently cited in international media.

    Al-Saif holds a Ph.D. from Georgetown, master’s degrees from Harvard and the University of London, and a summa cum laude bachelor’s from Boston College.

Join HAGSA today and become part of a vibrant community dedicated to learning, collaboration, and cultural exchange. Below are the eligibility criteria for becoming a member:

  • All graduate and undergraduate students enrolled in a degree-granting program at Harvard

    University are eligible and welcome for full membership at HAGSA. Furthermore,

  • Harvard-affiliated visiting scholars, researchers, residents, fellows, faculty, and staff are eligible

    and welcome for a limited membership (non-voting) at HAGSA.

  • All graduate and undergraduate students enrolled in a full-time degree-granting program at

    Harvard University are eligible for voting rights in HAGSA by registering to the official HSSA

    members’ list and identifying their preference for any given candidate running for office.

  • Membership shall be defined by subscription to the official HAGSA email list and attendance of

    at least two general meetings or events per semester.
